Welcome to my travel blog! My name is Mikala Whitaker, and I am a senior studying public relations, global studies and Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After I graduate in May 2017, I hope to travel to Thailand and then work at a public relations firm in Washington, D.C. doing work in social change. Some firms I admire include Ketchum, Fleishman Hillard, GMMB, Ogilvy, Porter Novelli, Edelman, Weber Shandwick and Burson-Marsteller.
My love for travel has only grown since studying in Mar del Plata, Argentina as an exchange student when I was 18, and I decided to create this blog to document my travels, particularly as I traveled to Kansas City for the summer of 2015 and then traveled to Sevilla, Spain to study abroad in the fall of 2015. I’m continuing this blog now because I absolutely love writing, travel, and passing on any helpful knowledge that I acquire.
I named this blog The Unanchored Passenger because I feel that while traveling, one is simply a passenger, unanchored and drifting wherever so called to go. One cannot simply plan every single minute of travel, and, in fact, I think it’s best not to and to instead go wherever your two unanchored feet take you.
As you read this blog, I hope that you find the information helpful in your travels and inspiring for your journeys ahead.
